Cyclist issues warning after discovering pins scattered all over a bike path in Swansea

A cyclist has issued a warning after discovering hundreds of pins scattered all over a bike path in Swansea.

Steven Thomas was out for his early morning exercise at 6am on Saturday, May 2 at the bike path near Foxhole Road in St Thomas, when he discovered three or four pins in one of his bike's tyres, creating small punctures.

But as he continued halfway along the path, he noticed even more pins, which he said were placed deliberately at specific locations so you were unable to avoid them.

"They were all over the path," the 44-year-old, of St Thomas said.

"I could see them all over the floor, there was over 100 of them.

"For someone to take the time and effort to space them all out, and it would have had to have been done in the night, I was dumbfounded by it, really.

"They had been placed so that no matter which way you go down the path you would come into them."

The path is located near Foxhole Road in St Thomas (Steven Thomas)

Mr Thomas spoke to other cyclists who were out that day to warn them of the danger, and picked up as many of the pins as he could before taking them home.

He contacted South Wales Police on their Facebook and Twitter pages to let them know of the incident, and posted his own warning on social media.

He added: "People walk their dogs down there as well and kids use the path.

"I spoke to a few people and told them to watch where they were going.

"I use that path all the time and it has never happened before.

"Obviously there is someone out there with too much time on their hands, and if they have got the time and effort to do something like that what else are they going to do.

"I would warn people to be more observant when using the path."

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said: "We were made aware of this incident and have passed the information to the council for attendance – we would urge anyone with information to contact their local neighbourhood policing team and if they see any incidents to report it to us via 101."
