There was a major police presence on Victoria Road yesterday morning when officers could be seen carrying out a meticulous search of the pavements and the front gardens of neighbouring properties.
The incident happened near the duck pond on Victoria Road, a residential street in the middle of Crosby.
Detective Chief Inspector Siobhan Gainer said to the ECHO : “This was a serious and violent assault which has left a man with significant injuries and I am determined to find the people responsible.
"Enquiries currently being carried out into the circumstances of what took place in the lead up to this incident but I would ask anyone who saw the cyclist or the grey car, which was possibly a Volkswagen Golf, in the Crosby area, last night to contact us.
“A number of people in the area came to the cyclist’s assistance following the assault but I would also like to speak to anyone who was driving past who may have seen or captured something significant on their dash-cam footage.”
