Cyclist in his 80s dies tragically after crash with car in Dublin suburb

A man in his 80s has died after the bicycle he was travelling on collided with a car.

The crash happened just before 1pm on the Killeen Road in Ballyfermot.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Dublin City Morgue where a post-mortem is expected to take place.

Gardai are appealing to anyone with information on the crash to come forward.

A spokesperson said: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision on the Killeen Road in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, this afternoon, Monday, 27th December 2021."

"Diversions were in place for some time to allow for a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators. The road has now fully re-opened."

They added: "Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision. Gardaí are also appealing to any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the Killeen Road at this time, to make this footage available to them."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballyfermot Garda Station on 01 666 7200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
