A cyclist is in a critical condition after a horror crash on the Isle of Arran.
Police said the 71-year-old man appeared to 'lose control' while cycling north on the A841 at Sannox Bridge, Shore Road yesterday just before 3pm.
Cops say the man then fell onto the southbound carriageway.
Emergency services raced to the scene on the Ayrshire island and the man was taken to Kilmarnock's Crosshouse Hospital by air ambulance for treatment.
Medical staff have today described his condition as 'critical'.
Police are now appealing for anyone who was on the scenic road at the time of the crash.
Sergeant Craig Beaver, from the divisional road policing unit based at Irvine, said: “The road was relatively busy at the time of the incident, with other cyclists and motorists, and is important we speak to anyone who may have information to help us establish the full circumstances.
“I am appealing for any witness to get in touch and would also urge motorists with dash-cams, who were travelling on the A841 at the time, to please check their footage in case they have captured anything of relevance.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 2066 of Thursday, August 19.”
