Cyclist in a serious condition after road traffic accident

A female cyclist was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a road traffic accident on the A78.

The incident happened around 10.35am on Sunday, 29 November on the northbound stretch of the road near to Loans.

The collision involved the bicycle and a Vauxhall Vivara van.

The 40-year-old female cyclist was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock for treatment to serious injuries and the driver of the van was uninjured.

Police in Ayrshire are today appealing for witnesses and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Constable Gordon Stewart, of the Road Policing Unit in Irvine, said: “We would be keen to speak to anyone who was driving on the A78 around that time on Sunday morning to get in touch if you saw the collision or either the cyclist or the van beforehand.

"We would be especially keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage.”

Call 101, quoting incident 1173 of November 29.
