Cyclist hospitalised following serious assault by group of men armed with weapons who ran him over in Kilbarrack

A cyclist has been hospitalised following a serious assault by a group of men armed with weapons in Kilbarrack.

The 39-year-old man was cycling on Swans Nest Road at around 10.30am this morning when the vicious assault took place.

According to gardai, the man was run over by a black saloon car before a number of men got out of the vehicle and assaulted him with weapons.

He has been taken to Beaumont Hospital, and his injuries are understood to be non-life threatening.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí at Raheny investigating a serious assault are appealing for information.

"At approximately 10.30am this morning, Saturday April 20 a 39 year old male cyclist was cycling on Swans Nest Road, Kilbarrack, Dublin 5 when a car, described as a black saloon collided with him.

"A number of men then got out of the car and assaulted the injured man with weapons (not known what type) the men then left the scene in this car. The injured man was taken to Beaumont Hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.   

"Gardaí are appealing for any person who witnessed the incident or with information to contact Raheny Garda station on 01-6664300, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111. 

"Gardaí are further seeking any drivers of vehicles or cyclists with dash cam footage who were in the Kilbarrack area at this time to check their dash cams footage and contact Raheny Garda station."
