Cyclist hospitalised after collision with car in Shawlands

A cyclist was rushed to hospital this afternoon after a collision involving a vehicle in Shawlands.

Emergency services attended the scene on Kilmarnock Road around 4:15pm this afternoon.

The road was closed in both directions for a short period of time between Mount Stuart Street and Walton Road as they attended to the injured cyclist.

Police have since confirmed that the male cyclist was taken to hospital with suspected rib injuries.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "About 4,18pm today, a road traffic crash happened on Kilmarnock Road, Shawlands, involving a car and a cyclist.

"As a result the cyclist was taken to hospital with suspected rib injuries. The road at the scene was closed for a short time."

It is the third hospitalisation of a cyclist following a crash in the city since Saturday, after a person was injured near Braehead and another was hurt near the M8 at Charing Cross.
