Cyclist hospitalised after being knocked down by car in 'serious' crash in Edinburgh

A cyclist has been rushed to hospital today after an early morning crash in Edinburgh.

The 24-year-old man's bike and a car collided on East Preston Street in the Newington area of the capital at around 6.30am, June 22.

Officers from Police Scotland cordoned off surrounding roads as paramedics treated him at the scene before taking him to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Streets were still closed off to traffic nearly two hours later.

No further details were available on the cyclist's condition.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We were called around 6.30am to a report of a serious crash between a car and a cyclist in East Preston Street, Edinburgh.

"A 24-year-old man was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

"Road closures are in place at East Preston Street with Oxford Street, South Clerk Street at Bernard Terrace, West Preston Street at Causewayside and Newington Road at Salisbury Place."
