Cyclist hit by van on Barnsdale Road Castleford rushed to hospital in serious condition

A cyclist has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after being hit by a van on the A639 Barnsdale Road.

West Yorkshire Police (WYP) said the man was seriously hurt after being knocked off his bike at 7.22am today (Fri).

The road was immediately closed by police and the man was rushed to hospital, where he is described as being in a serious condition.

The A639 Barnsdale Road remains shut as officers continue their enquiries.

A spokesperson for WYP said: "At 7.22am today (28/1) police were called to a report of a serious road traffic collision on the A639 Leeds Road between Methley and Castleford involving a van and cyclist.

"The cyclist, a male, was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a serious condition at this time.

"The road remains closed in both directions at this time and enquiries regarding the circumstances of the collision remain ongoing."

The road, which connects part of Leeds to Castleford, is currently closed between A6032 Methley Road and Green Lane in Methley.
