A male cyclist is fighting for life after suffering serious head injuries when he was hit by a car.
The man in his 30s was rushed to hospital at about 6.30am on Tuesday morning after he was struck by a BMW while on a push bike in Aintree .
The driver of the car said to be involved in the crash entered a nearby garage after and was reportedly "traumatised" by the incident.
A worker from the garage said the woman was offered a cup of tea in a bid to console her.
Police said the accident happened on Warbreck Moor, a well-known and busy road into the city.
Photos from the scene showed a mangled bicycle at the scene as schoolchildren made their way to primary school with their parents.
An ambulance and rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene after the ambulance service were called at 6.27am.
The North West Ambulance Service said: “A man has been taken to Aintree hospital with a serious head injury.”
Merseyside Police have been approached for more information on the crash.

Yards away from the tragic crash, the sign of Vape Charmer had dramatically blown off after the area was battered by strong winds.
A separate cordon was erected around the store as the large sign was dangling in the street.
The crash came as bad weather sparked problems across the region.
