Cyclist hit by car at busy junction

A section of the East Lancashire Road was closed after a cyclist was hit by a car at a busy junction.

The emergency services were called out to the junction of the East Lancashire Road and Moorgate Road in Kirkby at around 8.10pm this evening (Sunday) after a road accident.

Sections of the East Lancashire Road and Moorgate Road were both closed at the scene, police have said.

Police said the accident involved a car and a push bike. A man who was on the bike was taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Merseyside Police has given an update on the man's condition

The road has been reopened and scene cleared, police said.

A witness who asked not be named said there was a black Ford Fiesta stranded in the middle of the junction. He said that he saw three police cars at the scene.
