Cyclist found on Malpas Road in Newport is seriously injured

A cyclist is in hospital in a critical condition after being found on a main road in Newport.

Gwent Police said it received a report at around 5.15pm on Sunday, May 31 about an injured cyclist who was found on the southbound stretch of Malpas Road between Bettws traffic lights and the fire station.

The cyclist, a man in his forties, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff with serious injuries and remains in a critical condition.

Police said they believe there was more than one person on the bike around the time of the incident.

The road remains closed and traffic has been diverted from the scene.

Officers have asked drivers to check for any dash cam footage that might help with their enquiries.

Gwent Police particularly want to speak to the driver of a yellow hatchback type vehicle that was in the area at that time .
