A cyclist who died after a crash with a van on the A40 in Carmarthenshire was a serving police officer with Dyfed-Powys Police, the force has confirmed.
37-year-old Lynwen Thomas died as a result of the collision, which happened on the westbound stretch of the dual carriageway between Carmarthen and St Clears, near Bancyfelin, at around 6.40pm on Thursday night.
Police officers and paramedics went to the scene of the crash, which resulted in the road being closed for more than 12 hours.
Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed on Friday evening that the cyclist killed was a member of staff at the force.
A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "It is with great sadness that we confirm the tragic and sudden loss of a member of the Dyfed-Powys Police family.
"Sergeant Lynwen Thomas was a well-respected serving police officer, who passed away following a collision yesterday evening.
"Our thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues, who have all been offered specialist support.
"We ask that family members are given the privacy they need at this difficult time."
Police also confirmed earlier on Friday that the driver of the van involved in the crash has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Police are investigating the fatal collision and are asking for any witnesses to come forward.
