Commonwealth Games champion cyclist Cameron Meyer has withdrawn from the Tokyo Olympic team due to the ailing health of his father amid travel restrictions.
The 33-year-old, who won back to back national road race titles in 2020-21, announced his decision on Monday.
"Some unfortunate news, I am sad to say I have had to withdraw myself from the Australian cycling team for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games," Meyer said in a statement.
"Due to family health reasons where my father is continuing to battle Stage 4 brain cancer and with the difficult travel restrictions around the COVID pandemic, I believe I am unable to represent my country in Tokyo at 100 per cent.
"The Olympics are a special privilege for any athlete, and I would not feel right knowing my condition was not where it needed to be due to my current circumstances."
Meyer won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in the men's road time trial while he also collected three gold medals in track events at the 2010 Games in Delhi.
He competed in the Beijing Olympics in 2008, finishing fourth in the points race.
AusCycling's selection panel will meet this week to discuss his replacement.
