Cyclist airlifted to hospital with serious injuries in South Ayrshire

A cyclist was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after coming off a bicycle on a road near Monkton.

 
The woman fell from her bike on the B739 near the village on Saturday lunchtime -  at about 12.30pm. 

No vehicles were involved in the incident.

A helicopter landed and flew the woman to hospital for treatment as part of an emergency services response.

Police officers closed the route for about an hour and 45 minutes.

The road runs from Monkton past HMS Gannett and goes underneath the A77.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police were made aware of an incident where a female cyclist had come off her bicycle on the B739 near Monkton around 12.30pm on Saturday May, 2. The woman was airlifted to hospital for treatment to serious injuries. The road was closed until around 2.15pm.”
