Cyclist airlifted to hospital following collision on the A692 in Consett

A man has been airlifted to hospital with "severe injuries" following a collision in County Durham.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A692 in Consett on Thursday morning following the collision between a car and a bike.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service also attended and a male patient was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle with serious injuries.

The road was reopened between the Delves Lane roundabout and the Templetown roundabout at around 4pm.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "We were called at 11.55am today to a collision on the A692 Consett bypass involving a car and a cyclist.

"Paramedics were also called to the incident. They treated the cyclist at the scene before taking him to hospital.

"The road was closed between the Delves Lane roundabout and the Templetown roundabout to allow officers to work at the scene."

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 11:51 to a person injured on Rotary Way in Consett. We dispatched two double crewed ambulances and were supported on scene by the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

"A male patient was flown to the RVI hospital with severe injuries.”
