Cyclist airlifted to hospital after being seriously injured in car crash near Stanley

A cyclist was airlifted to hospital after being hit by a car in County Durham.

Durham Constabulary is now appealing for information on the collision which left the cyclist seriously injured.

The crash happened on the A693 near Greencroft, Stanley at around 4.40pm on Friday.

It involved a black Vauxhall Corsa and a hybrid bicycle.

It is believed the bike was attempting to enter the A693 via the cycle lane when it collided with the Corsa.

The rider was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle by air ambulance.

He remains in a serious but stable condition.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Kestle on 101 quoting reference number 274 of June 14.
