Cyclist, 19, killed in crash with bin lorry on country road

A teenage cyclist has been killed after being struck in a collision with a bin lorry in Sevenoaks.

The 19-year-old man, from Dartford, was pronounced dead at the scene in Swanley Lane at 11.30am on Wednesday.

An air ambulance was called to the scene in north Kent.

The country road was closed off for several hours as firefighters battled to free him.

The leader of the Sevenoaks Council called the incident tragic and said police were investigating.

Peter Fleming said: “Earlier today, a Sevenoaks District Council Official refuse vehicle was involved in a tragic incident in Swanley Lane.

“There is an ongoing Police investigation and therefore there are no further details at this time. My thoughts are with everyone involved in this incident. “

There have been no arrests, so far.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened, or who has dashcam footage which may assist, to contact them.

If you can assist the investigation call the appeals line on 01622 798538 or email sciu.td@kent.police.uk quoting reference DS/VS/097/21.
