Cycling Dumfries members are ready to “Pedal on COP”.
They have organised a two-day ride from Dumfries to Glasgow which will cover 95 miles via the Mennock Pass on the A76 leaving on Thursday, November 4.
They will arrive in the city to join Pedal On Parliament and other groups for the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice on Saturday, November 6, as the world leaders meet.
Sally Hinchliffe of Cycling Dumfries said: “We believe bikes are part of the solution to climate change and we are taking that message to the powers that be with our Pedal on Cop challenge and we’ve been busy making banners to take along. We want to promote sustainable cycling too.
“For people to be able to cycle safely they need the right environment available for them to do that.
“We have been campaigning for this for a while now.”
Sally added: “Famously, Kirkpatrick McMillan didn’t just invent the pedal cycle, he supposedly rode it to Glasgow too.
“Let’s follow in his wheeltracks to show that his invention is still not just relevant but vital to tackle the problems of the modern day.”
On Saturday, campaigners will assemble at Kelvingrove Park in the city for noon for the march to a rally at Glasgow Green.
Anyone who wants to join in and find out more details on what they’ll need should email: cyclingdumfries@gmail.com or contact through social media.
Sally said that anyone who can’t cycle can still join in the march.
She said: “I’d like to thank all who are taking part in the cycle ride, as well as its promoters, including Cycle on Parliament, for the work they are undertaking to raise awareness of the importance of bikes, including ebikes, in helping to address the climate emergency.”
