Cycling drum and bass DJ to bring party to Manchester's streets this weekend

A drum and bass DJ will bring the party to the streets of Manchester this weekend.

Dom Whiting became an unexpected viral hit after he loaded a set of decks onto the handlebars of his three-wheeled bike and blasted music while cycling around city streets in London, Brighton, Oxford and Bristol.

He records the whole thing - which often attracts a big crowd on bikes - rollerblades and even horses and ends up looking like a 'bizarre film set', he told the Manchester Evening News .

The 25-year-old said the idea first came about when the pandemic hit gig-venues were shut.

He said: "I didn't think too much of it at the time. Just some music on a bike. I didn't expect people to be that interested.

"You can spend loads and loads of money on lights to make a stage look good but if you watch back the videos it's like watching a film. There is just so much going on.

"The weirdest thing I've seen is probably a parott in Brighton but there was also a little kid one time following along behind me on a pony.

"The stuff that goes on, if you sit and watch it, it's unbelievable. It's honestly like a film.

"There is always a massive group. We're in a pandemic so there's no raves, no music events - this is a moving set."

In the last four months, Manchester has been the most requested city with hundreds of his followers begging him to come.

One of those includes Blackfriars Trinity councillor Stephen Coen who watched the 'Drum and Bass on the bike' videos on YouTube and wasted no time in sending him a message.

Coun Coen said: "I thought [the videos] are so mesmerising. I contacted him on Facebook and he replied saying 'As luck would have it, I'm in your city next week'.

"He is like the pied piper, not only does it get people out but it also shows off the city of Manchester.

"I think people have really missed getting out.

"Like a lot of good things, he's starting in Salford."

Mr Whiting, who hails from High Wycombe, said the show is kick-starting at Media City at around 2pm on Sunday.

He'll tour Manchester on the bike, heading towards Deansgate and into Piccadilly Gardens.
