Players are discovering the wide range of changes to Cyberpunk 2077 that CDPR snuck into the game, among them, bolstered romance paths that may not be huge updates, but players should enjoy them all the same.
Cyberpunk 2077 famously only had four romance options, and really only one romance option per character and preference, Panam (for male Vs who like women), Judy (for female Vs who like women), River (for female Vs who like men) and Kerry (for male Vs who like men). Now, all of these romances have gotten upgrades in various ways, ranging from dirty DMs to more wholesome pursuits.
Probably the most noteworthy addition is the fact that Panam will send you a nude photo at one point in the campaign now, albeit a very PG-13 one, given that she’s covered up:
Judy, meanwhile, has an update that’s subtle but cute. After the Pyramid Song mission, you can check out pictures from your underwater date on her computer:
River can come and hang out on your couch I believe. I’m not sure what Kerry does yet. But all four will send you more texts than before, and if you sleep at their place (or yours, I think?) there will be a chance that you wake up next to them:
I think that by far, one of the most successful parts of Cyberpunk 2077 has been these romantic paths, and the characters Panam and Judy specifically, who have gained cult followings from both male and female players. While we don’t know what exactly is planned for Cyberpunk 2077’s future expansion DLC, I think it would be wise to include one or both of these characters, if they want more fans to tune back in.
While Cyberpunk 2077 is still missing some pretty big core things, it’s hard to say that update 1.5 isn’t great, and I do appreciate a lot of the little things they’ve added in here, like everything just mentioned with the romances. Sometimes it’s not just about huge overhauls, but small details, and I think small details are what worked about the original game even before all the fixes, but it was easy to overlook them, given the state it was in.
Cyberpunk 2077’s romances, at least a few of them, are best-in-genre if you ask me. And I’m happy to see CDPR continue to invest in them, which I hope continues into the future with further updates.
