JAIPUR: Chief minister Ashok Gehlot in his budget speech on Wednesday announced that cyber police stations will be set up in all districts.
The government will also establish a Centre for Cyber Security at the estimated cost of Rs 50 crore to raise awareness about the menace of cybercrime.
A senior police official said that the newly announced centre will also be used for training modules in cyber security. The state has long been facing the problem of an exponential increase in cybercrimes, especially online financial frauds and cheating. In last one year, a total of 1,452 cases of cybercrime were reported in the state. Jaipur stood top with 218 cases of online frauds.
The Rajasthan police believe that dedicated police stations in each district will help strengthen online investigations. “All kinds of cybercrimes from online cheatings to extortions are presently filed at local police stations. These police stations don’t have adequate resources to investigate crimes taking place in cyberspace,” an official said, adding that special training may be required for the staff.
As per the police, the emerging trends in cybercrimes has rendered normal police stations completely incapable of handling a rising tide of cases. He added, “Scammers are using advanced online tools that can mask their online identities. Hence, such cases need special attention for a long span of time which is not possible at a normal police station where the staff has to handle a lot many tasks.”
