Cyber incident delays Victorian surgeries

Category two and three elective procedures have been postponed at three Melbourne hospitals. (AAP)

A major Melbourne health service has had to postpone some elective surgeries because of a cyber incident.

Eastern Health says the incident happened late on Tuesday, forcing many of its IT systems to be taken off-line as a precaution.

While category one elective surgery is continuing, category two and three elective procedures have been postponed.

Eastern Health operates the Box Hill, Maroondah and Healesville hospitals.

It said in a statement the incident did not compromise patient safety.
