Cwmbran RFC temporarily closes after customer visited before testing positive for coronavirus

A rugby club has temporarily closed its doors after a customer visited the club over the weekend and tested positive for coronavirus shortly after.

Cwmbran RFC confirmed on Saturday night that it will shut for 48 hours for deep cleaning following the incident, and has notified those customers who must self-isolate.

In a statement on the club's Facebook page made shortly before 10pm on Saturday, the club stated that the customer visited the club earlier that night and subsequently informed them of their positive test results.

The statement said: "We are satisfied that our measures on site will have helped to protect those that have visited us that did not have direct contact with this customer, however unfortunately, this does mean that the venue will now need to be closed for deep cleaning for 48 hours, and two members of staff that had contact with the customer will need to self-isolate as a precaution."

The club also clarified that the customer spent their visit in the function room and those in their immediate presence have been notified.

The statement added that no customers used the same room or table after the person in question left.

Cwmbran RFC's statement:

The club has urged people to not visit if you are showing symptoms of coronavirus or awaiting the results of a test.

"This is to protect you, us and the business as a whole," it said.

WalesOnline has approached Cwmbran RFC for comment.
