PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and the men's doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty stormed into the badminton finals at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday.
Sindhu, who lost to Saina Nehwal in the final four years back, will be eager to change the colour of her medal on Monday. She downed Yeo Jin Min of Singapore 21-19, 21-17 in the semifinal. Despite a slow start, Sindhu clawed back. Once she found her range, Sindhu dominated her opponent and led 11-9 at the break.
Thereafter, it was Sindhu all the way. Sindhu had already beaten Min in the team event and also twice on the international circuit. Sindhu will play Michelle Li of Canada in the final.
Sen once again proved that he is the future of Indian men's singles. On a day when Srikanth stumbled in the semis, Lakshya got past Jia Heng Teh of Singapore 21-10, 18-21, 21-16. It could've been an all-Indian final had Srikanth been less error prone. Srikanth lost to Tze Yong Ng of Malaysia 13-21, 21-19, 10-21. However, Srikanth signed off with a bronze as he beat Singapore's world No. 87 Jia Heng Teh 21-15, 21-18 in the playoff.
The Satwik-Chirag duo ousted Cheng Peng Soon and Tian Kian Men of Malaysia 21-6, 21-15 and play the English duo of Ben Lane and Sean Vendy in the final.
