THE city streets of Dundee are now being fixed with the JCB PotholePro that takes less than eight minutes to repair a damaged road. This is four times quicker than traditional methods, which means more potholes can be filled and fewer delays to traffic.
Potholes have increased by 37 per cent since the start of 2020, causing damage to vehicles and posing a danger to all road users.
The AA estimates the cost of repairing all potholes in the UK is £11billion. The JCB PotholePro can repair up to 700 separate holes per month.
Tayside Contracts Transport Services Manager Bob Ritchie said: “We have been able to make full use of the PotholePro within Dundee and there is no question about its effectiveness and efficiency. We are all very impressed.”
The PotholePro is fitted to a JCB four-wheel digger than can drive at up to 25mph to reduce time travelling between damaged sections of road.
It uses a planer with integrated dust suppression, sweeper and bucket, and a hydraulic cropping tool, so it is an all-in-one solution.
JCB’s Paul Swallow said: “It’s been hugely successful and fixes potholes permanently at half the cost of current solutions.
“Potholes are a huge concern for councils all over the country and one of the issues with repairs at the moment is that in most cases they are only short-term fixes. That’s where the JCB PotholePro differs. A permanent repair is far more effective.”
