Cutting criticism for South Lanarkshire Council

South Lanarkshire Council have come under fire - for not cutting enough grass during the coronavirus lockdown.

Independent councillor Jim Wardhaugh believes the region is poorly serviced.

He told the Reformer : “The biggest number of complaints I am getting is about the state that residential areas are in with overgrown grass.

“The council have the man power and the equipment – they just aren’t willing to use it. Transerv managed to have several workers cutting verges on the Queensway and Kingsway weeks ago and work within guidelines so why can’t the council?”

Head of facilities, waste and grounds services, Alistair McKinnon, said: “We resumed our grass cutting service in some areas after the Scottish Government announced the lifting of some lockdown restrictions.

“This is under constant review, and it is our intention to continue to look to increase the service we provide but a number of factors have to be taken into account, with the number one priority the safety of our staff.”
