CUTTACK: A descendant of the royal family of Kanika, Shubhendra Narayan Bhanjadeo (57), was arrested on Thursday for allegedly killing his mother Paresh Kumari Devi (75) at Sri Vihar colony in Cuttack over a property dispute.
Police said the incident occurred on Wednesday when Paresh Kumari, wife of the grandson of Rajendra Narayan Bhanjadeo, the erstwhile king of Kanika, was hacked to death by her son. After the incident, a complaint was lodged by her daughter Jayanti Samantray in Bidanasi police station.
Police said the deceased had supreme authority over the property and did not accede to the demands of Shubhendra Narayan for which he often blamed his mother for "ruining his life" leading to frequent quarrels between them.
On Wednesday, they indulged in heated argument following which Shubhendra Narayan entered the room of his mother and allegedly hacked her with a sharp weapon. She succumbed to her injuries, the police said.
"A forensic team visited the spot and collected samples," said DCP Prateek Singh.
