Customers warned of new lockdown shopping rules at shops like Asda, Tesco, Morrisons

With new coronavirus restrictions on the horizon, shoppers have been warned about possible changes and rules to stop panic buying.

People who shop at the big stores including, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury's, are being urged not to buy more than they need because of lockdown fears.

At the start of the crisis, supermarkets like Sainsbury's were forced to introduce limits on the number of items shoppers could purchase at once to ensure stocks lasted.

Special shopping hours were also introduced for NHS heroes and other shift workers who had been left unable to buy what they needed due to panic buying when stores opened.

Store bosses insist they now have more than enough stock and delivery slots for everyone, with Tesco doubling its delivery slots to 1.5 million, up from 600,000.

But people have already reported difficulties, with a three day wait for a delivery slot.

Andrew Opie, head of food and sustainability at the British Retail Consortium, said: “We urge consumers to be considerate and shop for food as they would usually during this difficult time.”

But the Daily Mirror reported that in Birmingham a supermarket worker told the paper: “Some people are definitely panic buying again. We have 4,000 more items this weekend than we usually would.
