Customers left queuing and confused as Leeds Starbucks drive-thru suddenly closes

Disgruntled customers took to social media to complain on Friday after a Leeds Starbucks drive-thru suddenly closed.

The White Rose Shopping Centre Starbucks on the A653 Dewsbury Road was one of the first in the country to reopen its drive-thru to customers on Thursday.

But by Friday morning it had closed again, with some customers queuing for over 30 minutes to realise it was shut.

"I ordered ahead through the app to collect at Leeds White Rose drive-thru, got there and queues for half an hour to find the place shut", one customer posted to the company on Twitter.

Another said: "I was in a queue of around 8-10 cars. Someone left their car to look inside the building and saw no one was there."

Starbucks has confirmed that the drive-thru has now reopened again and went on to explain what the mix up was and why the store had closed.

A spokesperson for the coffee giant told LeedsLive it has gone to great lengths to introduce new stricter cleaning standards in all branches, including social distancing measures for staff working in them.

However, at the White Rose drive-thru, concerns over the installation of Plexiglass - used to shield staff from customers - after the first day of opening, meant it was decided that the store should close for the rest of Friday.
