Customers evacuated from Iceland in Emersons Green after 'chemical spill' incident

Customers were evacuated from Iceland in Emersons Green and a woman has been rushed to hospital following a 'chemical spill'.

Firefighters, police and paramedics descended the supermarket at Emersons Green Retail Park on Emerson Way at around 8pm this evening (Monday).

Crews from Hicks Gate, Yate and Patchway attended.

It's understood the incident was caused by a leak from a freezer

What to do in a chemical emergency

A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 20:06 crews from Hicks Gate, Patchway and Yate were mobilised to reports of a chemical spill.

"On arrival two firefighters used breathing apparatus and gas monitoring system to check the building.

"Once deemed safe they handed the building back to the responsibility of the owners.

"One female casualty was conveyed to hospital by ambulance."

One witness told Bristol Live: "Huge police, fire and rescue and ambulance presence.

"Seems pretty serious around there."
