Customers complain new Odeon Luxe cinema is 'like an ice box'

Customers have complained about the temperature inside a new premium cinema.

The new Odeon Luxe in McArthur Glen Retail Park, Bridgend, is one of the newest additions to the area this month, but despite reclining chairs and a bar, not everyone who has tried it out feels they've been getting a taste of luxury. Kristian Tobin from Bridgend went to try out what he thought would be a more high-end cinema experience but came out with the view that he wouldn’t be going back.

He claimed the room which he was in was too cold when watching the film, meaning that he could not enjoy being there or get the most out of his money. He said: “Very comfortable seats however it was like an ice box. Ridiculous and cold. People were wrapped up under coats. Kids were complaining it was freezing and walking out. Sadly need to put the heating on there- way too cold.”

Describing his frustrations to WalesOnline, Kristian said: “It was absolutely freezing. There were no members of staff around really to tell them about the issue either. I could hear everybody else in there moaning about it as well. There was absolutely no heating in there switched on at all so we had to keep our coats on."

Kristian guessed that the reason for not warming the cinema up properly was due to the rising cost of living. He noted: “They’re probably avoiding turning it on because of the high costs. The film was good but the cold ruined the experience because I was just clock watching for the entire two hours it was on.”

And he is not the first to complain about the temperature of the Odeon’s more luxurious cinemas.

One Twitter user posted: “Loved the swanky new reclining seats at Odeon Bridgend today. However, we had to watch the film wearing our coats because it was so cold.”

And it seems to be a similar situation for other Odeon Luxe cinemas in different areas.

One twitter user posted: “Odeon Luxe cinema in Acton is saving money by freezing the customer after paying their high price ticket for the movie. Need a blanket to enjoy the movie.”

Another person posted a message to Odeon on Twitter, saying: “Just been to a screening of Matilda in one of your Luxe cinemas and it was freezing cold.”

The prices at the cinema can range depending on the film, with some tickets costing prices such as £16. The higher price tags come as the cinema is a step up from the classic Odeon-style setup, with the seats being fully reclining, having three times the standard legroom with more personal space.

You can also unfold the built-in table to enjoy food from the Luxe menu while watching a film.

A spokesperson for Odeon Cinemas said: “Due to a slight fault with the temperature controls at our Bridgend cinema, we have closed the one affected screen until repaired. The health and safety of our guests is our highest priority, and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
