Customers at IKEA in Ashton evacuated from store

Customers were evacuated from IKEA in Tameside this afternoon.

Shoppers were told to leave the store in Ashton-under-Lyne just after 12pm today.

The fire alarm was 'triggered accidently', store bosses said.

Checks were made to make sure the building was safe and customers were let back in after the 'swift evacuation'.

Michael Parker, Manchester Market Manager said: The safety of our customers and co-workers is always our highest priority.

"We can confirm that the IKEA Manchester store was evacuated today after the fire alarm was triggered accidently.

"Following a swift evacuation and confirmation that this was a false alarm, customers were invited back into the store after a short period of time.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
