Customer at Wetherspoons sent £700 worth of drinks after posting table number on Twitter

A Wetherspoons customer was sent over £700 worth of drinks after revealing his table number on Twitter.

Karl Phillips, known as Bootlegger or "The Captain", tweeted to his 230,000 thousands followers that he was heading for a pint at The Gold Cape Wetherspoons in Mold.

One follower then quickly asked what table he was sitting at , to which the Captain replied "54" not knowing he had accidentally started playing the "Wetherspoons Game".

The Wetherspoons Game happens when you share your table number on social media in the hope that people will use the handy Wetherspoons app to send you drinks or food without you having to pay.

Just minutes after posting his table number while in the pub on Monday, The Captain received a number of orders.

Clearly shocked at the generosity and possibly a little confused, Karl tweeted: "Well f*** dis s*** Jesus wept who keeps sending me drinks they piling up like f*** lads."

It wasn't long before Karl had been sent more beer than he could drink, with the total coming in at a whopping £700.

He said: "Well come on lads pack it in.

"I’m leaving in a minute wetherspoons have taken over 700 quid worth of orders."

Incredibly though The Captain managed to turn the prank into a positive for many more people.

In an attempt to find a way for the money to not go to waste, Karl got in touch with Wetherspoons head office to ask could the money instead be donated to charity.

He said: "Top wind up lads.

"Looks like it’s going to make a few bob for charity (providing head office clear it)"

His actions were praised by his followers online.

Tony Harris tweet: "Fair play captain. Any chance it can go to @speedomick?"

Simon Thornley also said: "Absolute Legend the people’s champ."
