Curtis Samuel signs with new team, reunites with former Ohio State teammate

Former Ohio State all-purpose back and former Carolina Panther, Curtis Samuel, has signed a three-year deal worth $34.5 million to play football with the Washington Football Team. The move reunites him with another former Buckeye in Terry McLaurin, who has had quite a successful stint in his first two years in the league with Washington.

To say that McLaurin is excited about joining up with his old running mate might be an understatement after taking a quick peek at his personal Twitter account. McLaurin even recalls the two stars talking and dreaming about this very scenario during their freshmen year in the dorm.

Samuel had a more decorated career in Columbus than did McLaurin and burst out in 2016 after being in the shadow of Ezekiel Elliott for two years. Who can forget his game-winning touchdown in double overtime against Michigan? Samuel would leave after his breakout junior season and be a second-round pick of Carolina, 40th overall.

As for McLaurin… well, he couldn’t be happier to have his former college teammate now become his current NFL teammate.

There was some speculation that after Urban Meyer reunited with former OSU running back Carlos Hyde, that Jacksonville was a serious contender for Samuel’s services. Ultimately, Samuel decided on DC as his landing spot.

Samuel is a jack of all trades. He plays the slot receiver position, using his quickness to get open. He can also fill in at the running back spot which he did while Christian McCaffrey was out with injury. In 2020, Samuel had over 850 yards receiving and 200 yards rushing.

The bottom line, Samuel can play several positions at a high level and The Washington Football Team got a versatile player that will complement McLaurin’s deep threat.
