Curtis Samuel’s status for Sunday remains unclear despite return to practice

The Washington Football Team received some good news on Monday morning when wide receiver Curtis Samuel returned to the practice field.

Samuel wasn’t working on side fields either, as he was a full participant in practice. Now, the next test for Samuel is seeing how he will feel after Monday’s practice.

Head coach Ron Rivera spoke about Samuel’s return after practice.

“I thought Curtis looked good. He moved around well,” Rivera said, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post. “We didn’t want to go out and overwork him and risk him tightening up or anything like that. We thought the things we asked him to do; he looked pretty good.”

Samuel also spoke to the media after practice and said he was feeling good.

“I’m feeling good right now,” he said. “After I leave here, I’ll go back and take care of my body like I’ve been doing for the last couple of days. But my main thing is just staying on top of my body. Just before it gets sore, just keep treating it.”

Reporters asked Samuel if he would be on the field for Sunday’s Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers and Samuel said, “maybe.” He then added the following response:

“Who knows? We’re going to see,” he said.

I wouldn’t expect Rivera or Samuel to reveal anything early in the week. It’s clear he’s on track to play Sunday, but there’s no reason to rush the process.

The next step for Samuel is to have multiple days like Monday.
