Curtis Nelson leaves Cardiff City with immediate effect as Blackpool switch edges closer

Curtis Nelson has left Cardiff City after mutually agreeing to end his contract with the club.

Nelson joined the Bluebirds from Oxford United in 2019 but found regular game time hard to come by this season.

And with Tuesday's 11pm transfer deadline fast approaching, Cardiff officially confirmed that Nelson had left the club little more than 24 hours after the arrival of new boss Sabri Lamouchi.

A club statement read: "Cardiff City can confirm that Curtis Nelson has today left the club by mutual consent.

"We'd like to thank Curtis for his efforts since joining the Bluebirds during the summer of 2019 and wish him all the best going forward."

Nelson underwent a medical with Championship rivals Blackpool on Friday.

And he is now set to be re-united with former Cardiff boss Mick McCarthy who recently took up the managerial role at Bloomfield Road.

The 29-year-old leaves south Wales having featured 127 times for the Bluebirds.

In a post on Twitter, Cardiff City FC Foundation wrote: "We’d like to thank Curtis for his support of our work during his time in the Welsh capital. Wishing you all the best for the future, Nels."
