Curtis Main reportedly set to choose Aberdeen over Hearts

Aberdeen have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Motherwell striker Curtis Main, fending of apparent interest from Hearts.

The 26-year-old’s contract at Fir Park is up and the Steelmen confirmed he would be leaving this summer.

Craig Levein had been credited with an interest in the striker and rumours surfaced of the player being shown around Tynecastle and Riccarton recently.

However, the Evening Express reports that the player has reached an agreement with Aberdeen after Derek McInnes persuaded the front man his future lay at Pittodrie.

The last time the two clubs went head to head over a striker was for the signature of Connor Sammon.

The Irishman picked the Jambos over the Dons in the summer of 2016, penning a three-year deal after leaving Derby County.

After scoring in the club’s embarrassing Europa League qualifying defeat to Maltese side Birkirkara, he was loaned out to former club Kilmarnock midway through his first season.

His second was spent on loan at Partick Thistle while this season he has been a teammate of Main at Motherwell, and will certainly depart Tynecastle this summer with his contract at an end.

Chris Cadden, who Hearts had a bid rejected for in the 2017 summer transfer window, is also out of contract at Motherwell. The winger is considering the offer of a new two-year deal but hasn’t signed yet.

Motherwell would be due training compensation should Cadden move on, thought to be around £400,000.
