Curtis Main eyed by Aberdeen as Derek McInnes loses patience with Joe Shaughnessy

Aberdeen could make a move for Motherwell striker Curtis Main – if he decides to remain in the Premiership.

The 26-year-old is out of contract at Fir Park next month and looks set to move on.

Main has indicated he is looking for a new challenge and is on Derek McInnes’s radar as he looks to strengthen his Pittodrie frontline.

Aberdeen made moves to try to land the Well striker in January, along with Bradford City, but were told he wanted to keep his options open.

Main is keen to return south and League One leaders Luton Town have also had him watched closely, along with Aberdeen skipper Graeme Shinnie.

He is waiting to see what options he has in England before he decides on his next move.

McInnes will look at Main, who draw a blank at Pittodrie on Wednesday, again if he was to decide to stay in Scotland.

Aberdeen are on the lookout for another striker with James Wilson set to leave when his loan from Manchester United expires and Greg Stewart also out-of-contract and attracting interest from Rangers.

Mark Reynolds signs Dundee United pre-contract as he leaves Aberdeen on a three-year deal

The Dons have Sam Cosgrove and Stevie May, while Bruce Anderson will also return from Dunfermline but McInnes still wants to add more goals.

McInnes has several striking options on his list alongside the Motherwell man.

Main has a decent CV having played for the likes of Middlesbrough, Doncaster and Portsmouth but his career sees him start his spells at clubs in a blaze of goals before his goals tails off.

That has been the case at Fir Park where he did really well but this season he has only registered a return of six goals with just three coming in the league.

The Dons are also keen on Livingston midfielder Scott Pittman although they would have to pay a six-figure sum for him after he recently penned a new contract.

Aberdeen have offered a pre-contract to St Johnstone skipper Joe Shaughnessy but are losing patience on that one as the defender has stalled over his next move.
