Curtis Jones' tribute to Liverpool teammate Alisson's late father after Sheffield United win

Curtis Jones dedicated his goal to Alisson’s late father after helping Liverpool end their four-match Premier League losing run.

Jones opened the scoring before Kean Bryan deflected Roberto Firmino’s shot into his own net for the second to earn Liverpool only their third win from their last 12 league games and boost their top-four hopes.

He dedicated his goal to Alisson’s dad, Jose, who drowned in Brazil a few days ago and the Liverpool goalkeeper was missing last night because he is on compassionate leave.

Jones said: “This goal is for Ali’s dad, may he rest in peace.

“Ali’s a strong lad, he’s a big part of the team. He’s not here today and we miss him for sure.

“I want to dedicate my goal to him, his dad and the rest of the family.”

Liverpool can climb back into the top four if they beat Chelsea at Anfield on Thursday and Jones hopes they can build on this victory.

“It was a good team performance,” said the Reds midfielder. “We’re happy to come away with the three points and we go again on Thursday.

“We’ve not scored as many goals as we would have liked, but tonight was a good example of putting it all together.”

Jurgen Klopp claimed it was an important win to aid their Champions League hopes.

“It was very important,” said the Reds boss. “You can imagine plenty of people have written us off and it’s about us showing we are still in there after all our problems around the exciting places.

“That’s what we want to fight for.

“I thought in the first half we should have scored three times. We scored two goals in the second half and Robbo could have had a hat-trick.
“That shows we are creating chances and our finishing was good enough for tonight, but we want to improve.”
