Curtis Jones sent off after on-field brawl as England knocked out by ex-Liverpool man Igor Biscan

Curtis Jones was sent off after the final whistle as England suffered a group-stage exit at the U21s European Championships on Wednesday night.

Having lost their first two group games, the young Lions had to win their final match against Croatia by two goals and hope Portugal beat Switzerland to progress in the competition.

And with 15 minutes to go, Aidy Boothroyd's side were on track to do exactly that as the Liverpool midfielder, making his first start of the tournament, scored a well-taken strike to double his side's lead after an early Eberechi Eze penalty.

However, Domagoj Bradaric's injury-time wonder-goal ensured England suffered late heartbreak despite the win as Croatia, managed by former Reds Champions League winner Igor Biscan, progressed at their expense.

And having already been booked earlier in the game for diving, Jones was sent off following the final whistle following an altercation with the Croatia squad as he exchanged words and confronted their celebrating players on the pitch, being pictured with a bloodied nose, before being restrained and escorted away by coaching staff.
