Curtis Jones sends message to Liverpool fans after making return against Chelsea

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has taken to social media to reveal his delight at making his return to first team action.

Jones replaced Sadio Mane in the 90th minute of the Reds' 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Sunday, marking his first appearance for the club since October 30.

The 20-year-old suffered a bizarre eye injury during training and also tested positive for Covid, meaning he missed Liverpool’s last 13 fixtures before making his return against Thomas Tuchel’s side.

The academy graduate took to Instagram to share his excitement at being back after a lengthy period on the sidelines.

“Loved being back out there the other night, missed it!!! Shame we couldn’t hold on to all 3pts, but we keep going. Thank you for the away support. ” He posted in the wake of the draw at Stamford Bridge.

His return will be a welcome relief for Jurgen Klopp with his squad being stretched at times due to Covid issues, and also due to the departures of Mohamed Salah , Naby Keita and Mane to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Since making his debut for the club in 2019 Jones has made 57 appearances, scoring eight goals and registering nine assists.

The Reds are currently set to play another five fixtures before the end of month and will need to utilise their squad effectively to come through what will be a testing period.
