Curtis Jones sends message to Jurgen Klopp after scoring first Liverpool Premier League goal

Curtis Jones has spoken of his pride after celebrating signing his new Liverpool contract by scoring his first goal in the Premier League.

The Reds confirmed yesterday that Jones had put pen to paper on a new deal that extends his long association with the club.

Jones made his Premier League debut as a substitute in the Reds’ 3-0 win at Bournemouth in December before scoring the winning goal against Everton in the FA Cup a month later.

And with his side leading against Aston Villa thanks to Sadio Mane’s strike, Jones came off the bench to net his first goal in the top-flight and secure his side all three points.

“It felt great but I think more importantly the boys came away with the three points,” the youngster told Sky Sports after the game.

“Everyone has said we have had a difficult week but I thought the boys dug deep and it was great for me to come away with my first Premier League goal.”

The game was played behind closed doors and even though there weren't thousands of Liverpool fans inside Anfield to witness the goal, Jones admitted the only thing that mattered was his side claiming all three points.

“I don’t mind. A goal is a goal to me. They all count,” he said with a smile when asked what it was like scoring without any fans in attendance.

“But like I said before I am just happy the boys came away with the three points and hope that the fans at home were buzzing to see a local lad score his first Premier League goal and I hope that I can give more in the future.”

Before the youngster concluded on his week: “Yeah it has been a big week. I signed again, I scored my first Premier League goal, but I have to give credit and a big thank you to the manager and his staff for the belief that they have shown in me and the opportunities they have given me all season.

“It goes to show in a difficult game against Villa, who are in a difficult position at the minute, it was only 1-0 the game could go either way and he has put me on. I think that I have repaid him in a good way, hopefully.”
