Curtis Jones makes position promise after starring in Liverpool win over Stuttgart

Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones cannot wait to get going this season after an impressive outing against Stuttgart.

Jones laid on an assist for Roberto Firmino in a comfortable 3-0 friendly win over in Austria last night.

The 19-year-old featured with fellow starlet Neco Williams in an otherwise senior first half team.

Jurgen Klopp then made wholesale changes at the break to give minutes to as many players as possible.

Reacting to the victory, Jones said: "We've been training hard this week. I'm happy to get 45 in the tank. I thought that the boys performed well. So yeah: happy days.

"A goal, an assist, a win - it all counts for me as an attacker. I'm happy to assist and I'm happy for Bobby to get his first goal of the season."

Jones lined up in midfield with Fabinho and Naby Keita in the opening period.

Asked about where he might play this term, he said: "I've always said whenever I'm called upon I will always give 100%.

"Whether it's right-back, centre-back, striker!

"[Yesterday] I was in a position that I like and I know.

"I was alongside good players who helped me out a lot. All in all, it was a good performance and a good win."

And he is raring to go as the 2020/21 campaign kicks off properly in the coming weeks.

Jones told LFC TV: "I can't wait. I've trained well. I've stayed fit, got an assist and performed well.

"I can't wait for the next game and to see what the season holds for me."
