Curtis Jones hands Liverpool an injury worry on England U21 duty

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was left out of the England Under-21 squad for their clash with Slovenia on Thursday with an injury concern.

Jones was expected to make his first appearance for the team since he was sent off at the Under-21 European Championships in March, but he was a surprise omission from Lee Carsley's squad when the team was confirmed.

According to Nick Mashiter of the Press Association, the 20-year-old is absent with a "knock."

Jones has enjoyed a strong start to the new season with Liverpool and has produced some of his best performances in red in recent weeks.

The midfielder scored in the 3-3 draw with Brentford and was excellent in the 5-1 win over Porto in the Champions League too.

However, his wait for an appearance for the Under 21s will go on, as Jones was issued with a one-match ban back in March after being sent off against Croatia. The Liverpool man reacted angrily to Croatia's celebrations after a late goal put them into the knockout stages and England out.

During the previous international break, the team's clash with Romania was cancelled and as a result Jones' ban was carried over to the next fixture against Kosovo.

While the absence tonight raises a concern for Liverpool, there is no indication that the injury is serious and England Under 21s manager Lee Carsley will be hopeful of having the youngster available for the team's next game against Andorra on Monday.
