Curtis Jones and Ben Woodburn issue Liverpool reminder after more late drama

Curtis Jones struck a dramatic late winner as Liverpool under-23s came from behind to earn victory over Chelsea.

The Reds fought back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against the Londoners in Premier League 2 at the Academy in Kirkby on Saturday afternoon.

But they suffered a poor start to the match when conceding after only three minutes when Tariq Lamptey set up Conor Gallagher for the opener.

The same duo combined again on 28 minutes when Gallagher netted his second to put the visitors in total control.

Liverpool, though, were given a lifeline four minutes before half-time when Jones was fouled inside the box by Joseph Colley and Ben Woodburn converted from the spot.

The Reds were level five minutes into the second half when Woodburn found Abdi Sharif at the far post for the winger's first goal at U23 level.

And the comeback was made complete with three minutes remaining when Jack Bearne - the U18s matchwinner against Everton last weekend - played the ball to Jones, who then powered his way beyond a gaggle of defenders before thumping a shot home.

Liverpool U23s are next in action on Sunday week at Leicester City for their penultimate game of the campaign.
