FRANCE 24 presenter and host of this year's Deauville American Film Festival Genie Godula speaks to culture editor Eve Jackson from the opening night. Actors Johnny Depp and Michael Shannon and director Oliver Stone are among the big Hollywood names expected in Normandy over the next week.
The festival opens with Tom McCarthy's "Stillwater". The film is a Marseille-set drama starring Oscar-winner Matt Damon and French actress Camille Cottin. It centres around a man who travels to the southern French city to visit his daughter – who's in prison for a murder she claims she did not commit – with the aim of getting her out of jail.
