Currys PC World recalling hoverboard sold in Ireland over fire fears

A batch of hoverboards sold in Ireland have been recalled over fear their plugs may cause fires.

Currys PC World has issued a voluntary recall of the iconBIT Mekotron 6 Hoverboard.

Consumers are being told to return the device to their local Currys store, where a full refund will be given.

A spokesman said: "Currys is carrying out a voluntary recall of the iconBIT Mekotron 6 Hoverboard HB-0060.

"The safety concern identified is the risk that the use of the power supply unit can result in damage to the mains socket or to the power supply itself which in turn could cause a fire."

A spokeswoman for the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said: "If you have purchased an iconBIT Mekotron 6 hoverboard with the above power supply unit then you should stop using the product immediately and return it to your local Currys store where a full refund of the purchase price will be given.

"Alternatively, please contact Currys customer services team at: 1800 206943."
