Like many NBA players (or just basic human beings), Klay Thompson is the best version of himself on the court when he gets to live his best life off it. For the California native, that means spending time with his feet in the sand and his head in the clouds at any of Southern California’s many beaches.
Prior to the Golden State Warriors’ Game 4 victory in the first-round playoff series with the Los Angeles Clippers, Thompson got away from it all in the So Cal sun, bringing along teammate Jonas Jerebko for the fun.
Said Thompson during his postgame presser:
I told Jonas yesterday when we went to the beach to play some volleyball, like, ‘Yo, I’m just going to jump in the ocean. I know that will reset my mind.’ And it worked.
And how.
Thompson came out hot — scoring 27 points before halftime on his way to 32 points on 12-of-20 shooting from the field and 6-of-9 from three-point range.
Fellow Splash Brother Stephen Curry chalked the beach day up to Klay being Klay:
He got his feet wet yesterday, walked in the hotel with a wet T-shirt, with his shades on. A typical Klay type of vibe.
Most importantly, Curry acknowledged the power of the Pacific to give Thompson the “reset” he needed, stating, “The Pacific Ocean is undefeated.”
Will the dip in the ocean carry forward into the Warriors’ potential closeout Game 5 at Oracle Arena? With Curry scoring just 12 points on 3-of-14 from the field and a very uncharacteristic 1-of-9 from three-point distance on Sunday, let’s hope Thompson stays hot for Wednesday’s tilt at Oracle Arena.
