Steph Curry was among a group of NBA stars who took part in a conference call and formed a “united front in favor of resuming” the season, Yahoo’s Chris Haynes reported Tuesday.
The private conversation, which Haynes said was made of LeBron James, Chris Paul, Damian Lillard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard and Curry, was held Monday.
The group agreed they would play with “proper safety measures” once the NBA has given clearance.
Most players whose teams are out of playoff contention or highly unlikely to fight back into it preferred the league begin with playoffs instead of finishing up the regular season, according to Haynes.
That would affect Warriors players specifically. The team, with the worst record in the league, is well out of the playoff race. This would also secure Golden State the top draft lottery odds and ensure the team a top-five pick.
On Tuesday, the National Basketball Players Association began polling players to gauge interest on returning, according to ESPN.
President Chris Paul and some other members had a conference call with commissioner Adam Silver on Friday that addressed topics including health, finances and how the schedule would be structured should play resume, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported.
Though the topic is being addressed, return is not imminent. Silver said the decision did not need to be made in May and talks could continue into following months.
